AUTUMN SKYE
An atmospheric Scottish landscape painting inspired by Marsco in the Red Cuillins of Skye, near Sligichan. In this painting I have tried to portray the wet and misty weather of this island with low lying clouds hanging over the hills, in autumn. Painted in cool blue colours for the distant hills of Marsco and the Cuillins and warmer autumnal colours of red and brown muted ochres for the foreground, with a gushing waterfall and burn flowing down the moorland hillside covered in bracken. Painted in a modern contemporary impressionist style on a lightly textured canvas, mounted on board.
Also available as professionally printed fine art giclee prints 12" x 12" or 20" x 20" on textured watercolor style paper. Other custom sizes and surfaces are available to order. |
Although Marsco is of no great height (2415ft), it has a great view from the top and is a very distinctive pyramidal shaped hill, part of the lesser known Red Cuillin of Skye, which is the more rounded and gentler hills compared to the more famous Black Cuillin.
Mostly climbed from the footpath that leads from the Sligichan Inn, an islotaed hotel, beside the road to Portree. It is mostly a steep grassy walk of around 9mls, with less scree than it's neighbouring hills and a narrowing but easy ridge towards it's summit, with spectacular views over the surrounding moorland, rugged mountains and sea.
