FLOW COUNTRY

A contemporary Scottish landscape painting inspired by the flow country of Caithness, in the far north highlands of Scotland.
This area of peatland and wetland has the largest area of blanket bog in Europe covering an area of 1500 square miles and is a unique European wilderness. Although I live on the edge of this vast area I find it difficult to paint as it it such an extensive area of flat featureless land made up of flat moorland, which is as much small pools of water as it land with only a few hills visible at times on the far distance to fix the eye on. This painting tries to capture the unique light with its huge skies and the vast area of flat moorland, surrounded by distant hills, the video below may give you a better idea of how this area looks.
