Should I paint a series of Black and white landscape paintings? In this 24" x 24" painting of the sea stack at Sandwood bay I only used pure black and white. It reminds me of a black and white fine art photo. Black and white photographs are very popular however I've never seen a black and white painting, other than some abstracts and portraits or charcoals and drawings, why?. In this case I think it works well as I hope I've created the mood and atmosphere of this isolated bay without the distraction of colour. Photographers often prefer B & W as it helps to focus on the light, atmosphere, form and pattern, emotion, and composition without the distraction of colour, yet in painting it is almost the exact opposite where colour is used.
